2009 Bishop Election SWMN Synod

In a year when a bishop election is held in the Southwestern Minnesota Synod, the constitution calls for each conference assembly to nominate five members of the ELCA clergy roster for the office of synod bishop (S9.04.01). The intent of the bylaw is to set a cap on the number of nominees a conference can send to the Synod Nominating Committee. There is no floor, however, to the number of nominees. After following the process outlined in the constitution, the ten conferences of the Southwestern Minnesota Synod, ELCA nominated two pastors for the office of Synod Bishop at their Sunday, March 1, 2009 assemblies.
