Call Committee Update 1/26/2010

Update for Call Committee:
After site visits to two lead pastor candidates during January, the
Call Committee met to determine whether or not to continue to
pursue the two candidates we have been working with. After long
discussion, the committee voted to offer a final interview to one of
the two candidates. While both were quality candidates and gifted
pastors leading successful churches, only one has the experience
and specific gifts we are seeking in a lead pastor.
When contacted last week, that candidate declined to continue the
formal process with us at this time. We were informed that this
candidate has recently moved into the final stages of the call
process with a different call committee and he expected to receive
a call from this congregation in the near future. He thanked our
committee for the opportunity and offered his appreciation for
the opportunity to work with us and get to know our congregation.
While this was a disappointment to members of our committee,
we understand that it is a natural, and even common, part of the
entire process. We have been told it is rather unususal to call a
pastor from your first list of candidates, especially for the lead
pastor position. We continue to have faith in the process and are
not at all discouraged!
We have already requested a new list of candidates from the Synod
Office. We expect to receive their paperwork in the near future.
We are also pursuing a possible candidate who was mentioned to
us by a member of the congregation. If you know of any ELCA
pastors that may be interested in coming to Luverne, or that you’d
just like us to look into, please let us know. Feel free to talk to any
